Precautions & Warnings |
| |
| |
CORINITE is to be advocated with caution in breathing problems (such as in chronic bronchitis),
glaucoma, heart disease, high blood pressure, thyroid disease, diabetes, seizure disorder, anxiety or
depression. Sedatives and tranquilizers will increase the drowsiness effect; CORINITE may cause
excitability due to pseudoephedrine.
| |
| |
Safe use of CORINITE in pregnancy and lactation has not been established. CORINITE should not be
preferably given for more than 5 days for pain, or 3 days for fever, unless prescribed. If sore throat persists for more than 2 days, is accompanied or followed by fever, headache, rash, nausea or vomiting medical consultation is to be sought. If nervousness, dizziness, or sleeplessness occurs,
discontinue CORINITE. |
| |
| |
Antihistamines may impair mental and physical abilities, and hence caution is to be exercised in driving,
or operating machinery whilst taking CORINITE. |
| |
| |
Sodium citrate (in CORINITE) is required to be advocated with caution in those with heart failure, renal
impairment, edema, hypertension, eclampsia or aldosteronism. |
| |
| |
Abrupt stoppage of caffeine-containing products (CORINITE Tablet) is not advisable since it could
cause withdrawal symptoms such as headache, anxiety, or muscle tension within 12 to 18 hours. |

Adverse Reactions |
| |
| |
The side effects on account of chlorpheniramine (in CORINITE) include drowsiness, xerostomia,
excessive perspiration, skin rashes, cardiovascular and central nervous complaints, epigastric discomfort, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, thickened bronchial secretions, tightness of chest, wheezing and nasal stuffiness, and hematological changes. |
| |
| |
Pseudoephedrine (in CORINITE) causes central nervous stimulation in susceptible individuals resulting
in nervousness, excitability, restlessness, dizziness, weakness and insomnia. Headache, drowsiness,
other central nervous symptoms, and cardiovascular side effects such as arrhythmias, or collapse
with hypotension can occur with pseudoephedrine (in CORINITE). |
| |
| |
Side effects of paracetamol (in CORINITE) are rare, and usually mild. Skin rashes and other hypersen
sitivity reactions could occur, and, on rare occasions, paracetamol could cause hematological
changes. |
| |
| |
Caffeine (in CORINITE) could cause digestive side effects, restlessness, nervousness, tremor,
headache, lightheadedness, dry skin, rash, and kidney dysfunction. Larger doses can lead aggravate
ulcers, cause frequent urination, flushing, twitch, irritability, clotting abnormalities leading to hemorrhage and acidosis. |
| |
| |
Sodium citrate (in CORINITE) in large amounts can cause hypokalemia and metabolic alkalosis,
especially if the renal function is impaired. Citrate salts can also have a laxative action. |

Drug Interaction |
| |
| |
CORINITE interacts with MAOIs; sedative and tranquillizers enhance its drowsiness potential. Beta
blockers may potentiate the pressor effects, and concurrent use of tricyclics can antagonize the
action of pseudoephedrine (in CORINITE). Sympathomimetics [pseudoephedrine (in CORINITE)] may reduce the hypotensive effects of guanethidine, mecamylamine, methyldopa, reserpine and veratrum
alkaloids; concurrent use of digitalis may increase possibility of cardiac arrhythmias. Theophylline,
ketoconazole, cimetidine, phenobarbital and phenytoin interact with caffeine (in CORINITE). |
