Precautions & Warnings |
| |
| |
ELFERRI Plus is to be advocated with caution for prolonged periods, especially in higher doses, and
during pregnancy. Vitamin A containing preparations (ELFERRI Plus) must not be taken whilst vaccination against measles due to possibility of decreasing the immune response. Vitamin D (in ELFERRI
Plus) is to be given with caution in hypercalcemia. ELFERRI Plus contains zinc and copper which could
interact. However, typical intakes of zinc do not affect copper absorption and high copper intakes do not affect zinc absorption

Adverse Reactions |
| |
| |
ELFERRI Plus Syrup may cause allergy and gastrointestinal intolerance, especially in higher dosages.
Fat soluble vitamins (in ELFERRI Plus) can cause hyper vitaminosis if taken in high doses for prolonged periods. Hypercalcemia can occur with excessive vitamin D (in ELFERRI Plus) intake.
| |
| |
Iodine (in ELFERRI Plus) can cause gastrointestinal disturbances, notably diarrhea. If taken for prolonged periods it could lead to iodism manifested by metallic taste, increased salivation, burning or pain,
acute rhinitis, throat inflammation, swollen eyes and increased lacrimation, respiratory symptoms, skin lesions, depression, insomnia, impotency and headache. |
| |
| |
Copper and zinc could cause gastrointestinal side effects especially when ELFERRI Plus is taken on
empty stomach. Accumulation of copper following its intake in large doses for pronged periods leads to symptoms of Wilson's disease (hepatolenticular degeneration). |

Drug Interaction |
| |
| |
Oral contraceptives can increase plasma vitamin A levels. Some antiepileptics can increase vitamin D
requirements; thiazides can increase vitamin D concentrations. Concomitant administration of zinc
supplements (in ELFERRI Plus) and certain antibiotics, specifically tetracyclines and quinolones, may
decrease absorption of the antibiotic with potential reduction of its efficacy. Prolonged use of diuretics
may increase urinary zinc excretion, resulting in increased loss of zinc. The tuberculosis medication,
ethambutol, has metal chelating properties and has been shown to increase zinc loss.
